We propose to make 3 by 3 mosaics at 15 and 7 microns of 4 regions at the near end of the Galactic bar. These images when combined with visible and near infrared data will allow a far better separation effect of of the extinction in the plane and the true distribution of stars. The areas area selected based on the TMGS catalogue and the COBE 2.2 micron maps. Three of the regions fall within the star formation region at near end of the bar and the fourth is a comparison region looking into the Scutum spiral arm.
